Some manufacturers just don’t get it. Sticking a long, squishy nose on a road saddle does not create a triathlon saddle. Sadly, Selle San Marco did just that when designing its newest tri saddle, the Zoncolan TriathGel.

Sure, the saddle is lightweight - a lithe Lorica cover and titanium rails make the Zoncolan TriathGel a scant 208 grams. But being light on the scale and carrying the name of a gigantic mountain in the Italian Alps doesn't cut it. Contrarily, it shows that SSM simply doesn’t understand the specific needs of triathletes. The Zoncolan TriathGel has a rounded surface that stabs the undersides exposed by a rider in aero bars. No part of the saddle in front of the rails offers any support to the sit bones. Rather than shaping the nose to avoid the most sensitive areas, the Zoncolan TriathlGel shoves padding just where you don’t want it. Certainly not my first choice in saddles.
